INDIANAPOLIS, IN, March 20th, 2023 -- The students at Junior Achievement of Central Indiana’s JA BizTown received a special visit today from Citizens Energy Group President & CEO Jeffrey Harrison and a group of Citizens employee volunteers. Harrison educated students about Citizens and the vital work they do and stressed the importance of developing skills that will help them succeed later in life. Harrison’s advice to students:

  • One of the most important skills you can develop is how to work well with others.
  • Learning how to identify a problem, brainstorm solutions, and implement the best solution will help you in any profession.
  • We all make mistakes, but instead of getting discouraged, use your mistakes as opportunities to grow and do better.

Harrison is heavily involved in the community and impacts thousands of young lives through his volunteerism and Citizens’ sponsorship of Junior Achievement of Central Indiana (JACI) and other organizations. He was recently recognized as a Central Indiana Business Hall of Fame Laureate by JACI. In his speech, he reflected, “Through my life, I have developed a growing appreciation for the importance of education, mentoring, and the development of young people—especially African American and Black youth.” You can learn more about Harrison’s inspiring story and watch the rest of his speech here, starting at 1:36. Citizens is a proud sponsor and supporter of JA BizTown, which allows more than 10,000 students per year to experience what the “real world” could be like when they grow up. Students are assigned careers/daily tasks, can make a government vote, receive a paycheck, can mail letters, and experience a variety of realistic adult decisions and responsibilities. The Citizens Energy Group storefront within JA BizTown offers the following career options for students to experience during the day: CEO, CFO, Meter Reader, Conservation Specialist, Pipeline Engineer, and Field Construction Coordinator. “We appreciate the support and involvement of Citizens Energy Group in our JA programs. It is inspiring to see students learn the ins-and-outs of working for such an expansively impactful company in our community,” says Jennifer Burk, President & CEO of Junior Achievement of Central Indiana.
