Indy Sports Teams Unite For JA Day
INDIANAPOLIS - Indiana’s pro sports teams are coming together today to work with Indianapolis students in areas ranging from personal finance to career paths and entrepreneurship. Junior Achievement of Central Indiana says the Indiana Fever, Pacers, Colts, Indy Eleven, Indy Fuel, the Indianapolis Indians and Indianapolis Motor Speedway are working with more than 400 elementary students about the importance of education and the role it can play in leading to a career in sports and beyond. The event comes a week before the organization inducts its 2019 Central Indiana Business Hall of Fame class.
"It’s important for them to understand that there’s marketing jobs, accounting jobs, HR," says Junior Achievement of Central Indiana Vice President of Education Alyssa Andis, "many different jobs within each industry, especially the sports industry, and they just don’t know about them.:"
“We’re thrilled to support this important initiative alongside our fellow Indy sports organizations," said Hulman Motorsports Senior Vice President Allison Melangton in a release. "This program provides a wonderful opportunity to work with our local schools and community partners to open more pathways to success for our students."
Representatives from the teams and organizations are spending the entire day with students at Sand Creek Elementary and Christel House West Academy. Through this and other similar events spotlighting different industries, JA says it expects to reach more than 35,000 central Indiana students during the 2018-2019 school year.
Junior Achievement of Central Indiana will honor the 2019 Central Indiana Business Hall of Fame class on February 28 at the Indiana Roof Ballroom. This year’s class includes Purdue University President Mitch Daniels, Sandor Development Co. founder and Chief Executive Officer Sidney Eskenazi, St. Vincent Indiana CEO Jonathan Nalli and the late Mari Hulman George, former chairman emeritus of Hulman & Co. and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
