Finish Line Youth Foundation Names Junior Achievement of Central Indiana as 2021 Nonprofit Partner
INDIANAPOLIS – Today, Junior Achievement (JA) of Central Indiana announced they were selected by the Finish Line Youth Foundation (FLYF) as their employee campaign beneficiary. Finish Line employees raised funds in late 2020 to create this partnership which will support children in the Far Eastside neighborhood by bringing JA’s critical programs to four local schools.
“With this partnership, Finish Line is putting their community first,” said Jennifer Burk, president and CEO of Junior Achievement of Central Indiana. “To have a community partner with national recognition and an eagerness to help our youth is beneficial for everyone.”
With FLYF’s support, JA’s career exploration and financial literacy programs will benefit more than 3,300 students from 158 different classrooms throughout Creston Middle School, Harrison Hill Elementary School, Hawthorne Elementary School and Stonybrook Middle School.
Finish Line employees have already volunteered in various JA programs including JA Career Days, where volunteers video chat live with classes at every grade level to discuss skills and knowledge needed for various career paths. JA programs are designed to build upon each other with age-appropriate information with higher grade levels receiving a longer, more in-depth experience.
“MSD of Warren Township’s District-wide program – the Journey of a Graduate – focuses on six skills necessary to adapt and thrive in a changing world: citizenship, collaboration, communication, content knowledge, critical thinking, and resilience,” said Dr. Timothy Hanson, superintendent of schools. “Our valued partnership with Junior Achievement of Central Indiana and Finish Line Youth Foundation leverages our community to extend learning beyond the classroom. It will provide an opportunity for students to engage in exceptional real-world learning experiences and practice critical skills while exploring their unique interests, strengths, and potential.”
Additionally, Finish Line will also open a virtual storefront within the JA BizTown Adventures program, an online version of JA BizTown, which invites 4th – 6th grade students to experience the responsibilities of personal finance in a real-life setting of stores, shops, and financial institutions, allowing students to become “an adult for the day.”
Finish Line employees also volunteered their time during the pandemic to create impactful, pre-recorded videos that introduce key concepts and vocabulary words pertaining to particular duties and responsibilities within their field, exposing students to concepts and career paths they may not have known about. These videos educate and inspire students until everyone can safely volunteer in-person once again.
